PET'S AND STRESS

Some pets experience stress while their owners are away. I will do everything I can to reassure them they will be safe and make them feel as secure and comfortable as possible.

It is natural for them to relieve their stress in their species's own way. Dogs may chew on objects they normally wouldn't, such as;  bottles of pills, lotions, shoes, clothes  and things that have your scent on them. Also, plants, wood, pencils, pins, rubber bands, shampoo, soap, candles, small metal objects, household cleaners and other items they haven't chewed on before. I recommend that you remove these items out of their reach before you leave for their safety.

Cats have as natural reflex to pee to relieve their stress. Part of their brain triggers them to instantly do that (it is not intentional). They also may hide under a bed or in a certain area while no one is home, therefore, it is a good idea to have more than one litter box for them and to keep a litter box in a room that they normally hide in and or to close the doors to other rooms, so they don't relieve themselves in them.

TRAINING
Animal behaviorist recommend that people never punish or yell at an animal for naturally relieving their stress, this only causes them to feel more anxiety, fear and confusion which  leads to more stress, which causes the same behavior. They suggest that you try to make them feel safe and provide other options, such as; a pheromne calming collar, plug in diffuser or spray. A thunder shirt or calming treats can provide comfort to dogs and cats experiencing anxiety. These can be purchased at most pet stores. My advice is if you are going to use the shirts, start putting them on a few days before you leave to see if they will
try to remove
.

HIMALAYAN SALT LAMPS - The salts on these lamps are toxic to cats and can be toxic to dogs and other pets. Licking them can cause salt poising, which causes several health problems and can be fatal. Cats are more likely to lick the lamps them dogs are, but some dogs will lick them too. The salt lamps can sweat when they are turned off and it is humid. The salt can run off
the lamp onto the floor or furniture and pets can step on it and lick it off their paws. If you use one, place it up high enough out of their reach and you can put a plate or something underneath it to catch any salt sweat run off ( please let your pet parent friends that use these lamp know also).

ESSENTIAL OILS & POPORRI - Felines do not metabolize a lot of things they way people and dogs do. They lack a key enzyme use to process the oils, most could be toxic to them or cause permanent organ damage. It is best to call a Vet. before using them.

ANTIFREEZE - Taste sweet to most animals, one lick can kill them

CAT NIP TOYS -A lot of cat nip toys are made
in other countries. Some of them contain products that are not healthy for cats. They may include fillers, such as; saw dust, wood
shavings and other things that are from factory floors. The best cat nip toys to buy are American made ones since we have regulations about what can be put in them.

CATS AND KITTENS

Cats metabolize many things different than other animals and people. For example, one aspirin can kill a cat, there are other things that are hazardous to them, but not to dogs or people. These lists include most of them.
