About The Pet Cuddler
Professional Pet Sitting by The Pet Cuddler in Madíson, WI and some surrounding areas
My name is Karen Swanson, I am 58 years old and from Madison Wisconsin. I have worked in Insurance and Bookkeeping in the past 30 years however, my one true passion in life is helping animals and these are some of the things I've done for them.
I have been pet sitting for 17 years, including working for 2 other professional pet sitting companies and I worked at a doggie daycare.
I have fostered over 20 special needs cats and some dogs. I medicated and took care of all of their individual health problems and I've kept the ones that didn't get adopted as my pets.
I have volunteered for a Humane Society and large rescues in Wisconsin for 10 years.
I created and funded a children's humane education club called "The Critter Club". Children got the opportunity to meet and learn about all kinds of animals that were there, including different pets, farm animals and wildlife. Events were held mostly in Dane Co. including at Monona Terrace, The Children's Museum, The YMCAs, community centers and after school programs. Over 1200 kids attended the club. The purpose of it was to teach kids about caring for animals and to promote kindness towards everyone.
I organized and held 'National Homeless Animals' Day' at the Wisconsin Capitol for 3 years to encourage people to spay and neuter their pets to reduce euthanasia.
I held the first National Feral Cat Day in WI at a large pet store, which included professional literature and Trap, Neuter & Return (TNR) videos about how to humanely catch feral cats, spay or neuter them, vaccinate them and provide them a safe place to live in the wild.
I created Critter Convoys an Organized Transportation for Rescue Animals (OTRA) that transports pets in other states that are scheduled to be put down to their approved rescues up North.
I lobbied at the Wisconsin Capitol in front of the state senate and finance committee for a bill called "The Pet Facility" bill to create better laws to regulate, mandate health care and inspect puppy mills and other breeding facilities in our state.
I wrote a proclamation which Governor Doyle signed, declaring the last Tuesday in February to officially be "WISCONSIN SPAY DAY" to reduce euthanasia in our state.
I have created spay and neuter fundraisers in Dane Co. to help pet owners with finical challenges to spay and neuter their pets.
I arranged to have public service announcements (PSAs) on the radio to encourage people to fix their pets. Including, one by Bob Barker of the Price is Right.
I organized a driver and semi-trailer to transport food and supplies for pets down South to help rescues in the aftermath of hurricane Katrina and raised $300.00 for fuel.
I have volunteered for The Humane Society of The United States and spoken to Wisconsin legislators to create more laws on behalf of animals.
I was the vice president of The Alliance for Animals in Wisconsin for 2 years. A professionally established non for profit organization that helps all kinds of animals in the U. S. A.
I was a candidate for Volunteer of the year in Dane County in 2002
for helping children and animals.
